Indigo Angora

There are so many things that happen before getting to the final product, whatever it may be.  I will be adding photos of the process, the background, the magic.  It isn’t as easy as spinning a fluffy yarn or putting some lovely red dye onto cotton or silk.  What really goes into making that naturally dyed shirt?  When she says handsewn, she’s using a machine, right?  (Wrong!)

Here you can see how it is done.

Here are four dyed samples of fabric.  I dyed these little bits and then looked at what might be in them.  Using a number of fabric pieces like this I found images in them to embroider.  The embroidery was then put on a pair of overalls as part of one of India Flint’s February projects.  Patches like this are a wonderful way to hide flaws or places in need of mending on your clothes.  They can also dress up something you might like but not love anymore.  The overalls are now one of my favorite articles to wear.
